Care guide for teak wood furniture
Teak wood is a high-quality durable material that requires little maintenance to keep it looking good. Being tight-grained hardwood with a yellow-brown colour, it's susceptible to exposure to natural elements & salt, wind, water, and sunlight. Follow steps to maintain your teak furniture in its natural state:
- Avoid using harsh cleaning chemicals and lightly dampen your teak furniture surface with clean water and a soft cloth.
- Brush timber down regularly and remove any cobwebs, leaves, or dirt that has built up on the surface. Follow the natural grain of the timber to avoid scratching the surface
- When food or liquid has come in contact with your teak surface, clean it immediately to minimise staining.
- If there are any stains apparent on the surface, you can use a plastic or stiff bristle brush to clean it, lightly scrubbing the area inline with the timber grain. If you want to use a natural solution on stubborn stains, you can mix vinegar and warm water (1 part vinegar to 4 parts water) and evenly wash down the surface with a soft cloth. Leave the vinegar solution to soak into the teak for roughly 15 minutes before cleaning it again with a sponge, following the timber grain.
Note: avoid using metal brushes (e.g. steel wool) or scrubbing pads that can scratch the natural timber’s surface.
